About the Event
Mention the name Mike Hallowes, and you immediately think of Nick Mason's Ten Tenth's Car Collection, where Mike was responsible for the hiring of his eclectic cars for photographic and film work.
But rest assured, there is much to Mike's earlier life that will have you, quite literally, 'rolling in the aisles'.
His first job was as an Assistant Purser with The Orient Line in the late 1950s; Mike will explain why he left this seemingly glamorous job, whereupon he trained to be an Accountant; leaving after six months since his rail fare exceeded his somewhat meagre salary!
Perhaps more exciting, was in delivering bread for the Co-op in Guildford in an electric van; a job from which he was sacked for calling his Manager a 'left wing peasant'!
The Motor Trade seemed a logical next step, working with David Plumstead and Mike's old friend Bobby Bell at Plumstead Motors, as advertising Manager and Second-hand Parts sales, (Remember their mouth-watering advertisements in 'Motor Sport'). As Mike wisely reminds us, the financial crash at Plumstead certainly wasn't his fault!!
Moving to join Bobby Bell as Service Manager on Alfa's and Lotus', by now Bell and Colvill, he will regale all with fascinating 'wheeler dealing' tales, leading to his time with Nick Mason. Here we learn all about Ferrari GTOs, TZ Alfas, V16 BRM, 926 Porsches and more; each story a real adventure.
Hosted by our esteemed former BOC Chairman, Nick Upton, you will learn about a life that you can only but envy!!
Certainly an afternoon not to be missed with all proceeds going towards Friends of Prescott!!
